The department's annual BBQ was held Sunday April 25 from 11AM-2PM at the Woden School cafeteria. The fundraiser was a huge success. The department wishes to express its gratitude to everyone that came out to support us.

The Woden Fire Department is an active member of the SFFMA training program and is actively working to have all of our firefighters certified to at least the basic level. The department trains every Monday night except the Monday of the Monthly business meeting. The department also trains at least one Saturday each month.

NEW FIRE TRUCK

Brush truck 773 was officially placed in service on 7/11/2008. This truck will carry 800 gallons of water and has foam capabilities. With a 26 HP pump with pumper capabilitites, this truck will be a great addition to the department. The department is very excited about this new edition.

JR. FIREFIGHTER PROGRAM

The Jr Firefighter program at the Woden Fire Department is entering its 2'nd year. The minimum age requirement is 14 years old, with the maximum age being 17 years old. The advisors for the program are Melissa Jones, Lyna Reynolds, Jeanna Stone and Jeremiah Barnard. The next meeting will be held Friday August 20 at 6 PM at the Woden Fire Station. All youth between the ages of 14 and 17 are invited to attend. The Jr. Firefighters are currently building their own page on our website. CHIEF'S LETTER

The next two months will prove to be a busy, yet exciting time, for the department. It will all start on April 11 whe the department will host an open house at the fire station. Firemen will be on scene to show the fire trucks and equipment to kids and to talk to them about fire safety. First Responders will be there to take blood pressures for any adults wanting to have it taken. On April 25 the department will hold its annual BBQ at the Woden School cafeteria. The BBQ is the major fundraiser for the department and a lot of work and effort goes into it. Finally, on May 8 the proposed ESD 5 will be voted on by the people that we serve. This election comes after 6 months of work by both the Woden and Melrose fire departments. This is an important issue for both departments due to the fact that we are no longer able to outfit our firemen with gear and equipment to adequately and safely provide services to the areas that we serve. NOTE: DUE TO AN ACCIDENTAL ERROR BY THE COUNTY JUDGE, THE ESD ELECTION HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL NOVEMBER.

MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS
• Must be at least 18 years of age (Jr. Firefighters must be 14 years of age)
• No prior training or firefighting experience is necessary (training and gear will be provided by the department)
• Must fill out a complete application and be able to past a criminal background check/Drug test (if necessary)
• Must attend 3 consecutive department meetings (membership will be voted on by the officers at this time)
